What You Do for Christ Counts

God calls some ministry women to do spectacular things in the name of Christ. Others, while serving Him, labor in relative obscurity. In both cases, God achieves His purposes. The commandment is the same for all of us: "And whatever you do, in word or deed, do everything in the name of the Lord Jesus."(Colossians 3:17a)  As a ministry woman with an ordinary life, I find it quite exciting to think that all of what I do for Christ counts, even if it isn't well-publicized. I am thankful He cares about my day-to-day activities and that He gives me the ability to live for Him. That is extraordinary!

The way you talk to me. The Bible says a lot about our words. Even a casual comment can have a good or bad effect. I am not able to speak at a prestigious Christian women's conference, but I do have kind words (and a generous tip) for a hotel maid who deals with other people's messes. My words could be the sweet aroma of Christ to her.

Children are people, too.  In my church tradition, we "undertake the responsibility of assisting the parents in the Christian nurture" of children.  Although teaching is not one of my strengths, I can change diapers and read books to and play with those in the church nursery to the glory of God. While I care for their children, parents can hear the Word of God.

Be approachable. In spite of attending several training seminars, I am not gifted in evangelism. But, I do pray that people at my workplace will see Christ in me as I diligently work and genuinely express interest in the welfare of others. Recently, I was quietly approached by two different non-Christian women who seemed to feel safe asking me some deep questions. With God's help, I was able to share a bit of the Gospel with each of them.

Do what you can. I could never preach a sermon or lead a Sunday school class the way my husband does, but he could never cook dinner the way I can. I agree with Napoleon who once said, "An army marches on its stomach." So, every day, to keep his ministry going, I keep the nutritious food coming.

Whatever we say or do in Christ’s name advances the kingdom of God.  He enables us to do big ministries and small service, and He uses it all. Think about how your life can make an eternal difference as you minister in His name.
